Power in the name of the Lord!
Text: 1 Samuel 17:40-50
TIt seems obvious from the text that David's human strength was no match for the giant Goliath. Neither was his sling and stone to his huge spear. The secret of his success was the name of the Lord.
Name in the Hebrew language means authority. This authority is not just a command or some instructions to follow. It is not ceremonial. The name of the Lord when used appropriately carries real power to subdue any force that is opposed to God. The good news is that the power of the name of the Lord is available to every believer.
We must use the name of the Lord when there is a deep sense of urgency to act, when there is a strong feeling of opposition to the enemy's defiance, when we recognize that our strength is in the Lord, when the presence of the Lord energizes holy boldness and when there is simple childlike faith.
THOUGH FOR TODAY:
The name of the Lord is a mighty tower for any "Goliath" in our lives.
